West Indies Regatta
Dear Friends!
Big announcement! We at Tradition Sailing are excited to offer a very special opportunity, for the first time ever, to join in on our invitation to the extraordinary weekend in St. Barths for the annual West Indies Regatta 2024! This celebration of Caribbean wooden boats is a remarkable 3 days honoring our Caribbean maritime heritage. First, a little about the event:
Preserving a Legacy
In the Caribbean, the art of building sloops like Tradition, from soulful small boats to majestic schooners, is a heritage skill that goes way back. Crafted on beaches with basic tools, these vessels were not just means of transport but symbols of the islands’ resilience and ingenuity. Today, as we face the risk of these skills disappearing, Tradition Sailing is committed to preserving and sharing this priceless legacy and The West Indies Regatta is an unique collection of people and boats coming together to celebrate and shed light on this time-honored subject and component of Caribbean history.
A Sail across Time
Join us as we continue to support the West Indies Regatta’s objective to conserve the art of Caribbean boatbuilding. This year, Tradition is eager to return and participate amongst a wide variety of wooden sailing vessels representing Carriacou, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Barth and Grenada, among others.

- Gear up for competitive but friendly racing with other Carriacou sloops and wooden vessels. It is a sight to see as we all sail around the beautiful Îles of St. Barth.
- Each evening, the Gustavia quay becomes a hub of festivities, filled with delicious food, captivating music, and storytelling, providing a window into the soul of Caribbean life.
- Browse or make purchases at the mesmerizing “Village Artisanal…Saveurs des Caraibes” market (open Friday, Saturday and Sunday), where each participating sloop brings a unique collection of arts, crafts, organic produce, and specialty products from their respective islands. This vibrant gathering revives the bygone era of trade, reminiscent of the days when Carriacou sloops sailed the island chains, exchanging goods and culture.
- Saturday is a day of racing and the evening on the quay will include a concert by Joshu which may groove you onto the dance floor until late.

- The Sunday afternoon post-race raft-up off of Plage de Colombier is a delightful crowning point of the weekend. Envision a gathering of Carriacou Sloops, with crews enjoying a communal potluck feast on their decks, diving into the water for a swim, and musicians spontaneously playing their instruments in a lively jam session. The afternoon epitomizes the camaraderie and friendship among our close-knit community of Caribbean wooden boat lovers.
- Other Sunday happenings include circus troupe entertainment, a boat flea market for bartering/selling and the anticipated awards ceremony will be held that evening.
- Participating boats confirmed as of the end of February include: Tradition, Genesis, New Moon, Free In St. Barth, Navasana, Ongoing Java, Blue Peter
